Virtual Author Talk Program for High School Students

Reading Time: 3 minutes

BookBreak Launches Reading Engagement Program for High School

We’re thrilled to announce that BookBreak is expanding into High Schools in Fall of 2025 with its virtual author talk program!

Educators know all too well that reading engagement levels decline as students age. Research from the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report shows that only 46% of 12–17‑year‑olds say they enjoy reading compared to 70% of 6–8‑year‑olds.

BookBreak’s virtual author talk program for high school students creates meaningful learning experiences that inspire a love of reading and writing. By connecting students with bestselling authors, we help spark curiosity, strengthen literacy skills, and bring classroom texts to life. Our goal is to support students in becoming more engaged readers while boosting their literacy skills.

How BookBreak’s Program Boosts Literacy for High School Students

As coursework becomes more challenging in high school, many students lose confidence in their abilities, which can negatively affect their academic performance. A review of nearly 150 studies shows that motivation plays a key role in both learning and student well-being.

Keeping teens engaged through fun, relevant learning that builds literacy and critical thinking helps strengthen that motivation and confidence. Research also shows that teens who read frequently report lower anxiety and greater emotional well-being. BookBreak supports these outcomes by encouraging consistent reading with meaningful content and virtual author talk connections.

BookBreak Helps High School Students Grow As Readers

We’re here to support your school in inspiring high school students to grow as readers and writers and reach their full academic potential.

Our goal is to connect students with virtual author talks that complement your curriculum, building excitement and engagement around reading and writing. Through conversations with bestselling authors across diverse genres, BookBreak helps students develop a deeper appreciation and understanding of literacy.
